Approach

We begin by talking to our clients to really understand their need. Then we assemble a team to work on the project, which might include photographers, illustrators, copywriters and programmers. Our team develops a single concept or a range of suggestions to suit the client’s brief: it might be a lavishly high-end design or an innovatively low-budget solution.

Kurz Gestaltung has extensive experience working on complicated and unusual projects both in print and digital media. We can handle sensitive content, technical constraints and tight deadlines to produce solutions which are fresh, sensitive and clever.

History

Kurz Gestaltung is run by Carolin Jap Lim (formerly known as Carolin Kurz) accompanied by various project-based partners. The studio was founded in 2001, projects between 2002 and 2007 were created under the name of Kurz:Haug.

Between 2000 and 2002, Carolin worked for the renowned art & design publisher Booth-Clibborn Editions, both in London and Berlin, moving to Berlin in 2001. Carolin designed complex book projects like ‘Fabergé’, ‘Splendour of Iran’, ‘Contemporary Iranian Art’ and ‘Berliner Style’; the last of which she also researched and compiled.

Between 1994 and 2000 Carolin studied at the Royal College of Art, London, the London College of Communication, Chelsea College of Art and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. These years gave her hands-on experience working for Black Book Magazine, New York and Peter B. Willberg at Clarendon Road Studio in London.
